Entry Requirements
1. General Requirements
1.1 non-Chinese citizens with valid foreign passport.
1.2 Under the age of 40 (Age limit is flexible for healthy applicants with working experience and high academic ability). Applicants must be Master’s degree holders. (Those who provide pre-graduation certificate or student status certificate at application MUST provide Master’s degree diploma no later than registration.)
1.3 With proper moral conduct, in good health with no infectious disease or any physical or mental disease that may affect study.
2. Requirements on Citizenship
2.1 Applicants who have given up their original Chinese citizenship (including residents in Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan) and become foreign citizens shall provide the documents certifying the cancellation of Chinese citizenship and household registration.
2.2 If the applicant has acquired foreign citizenship automatically at the time of birth in a foreign country, whose parents were both Chinese citizens, or one of the parents was a Chinese citizen, parent’s (with Chinese citizenship) permanent resident in foreign country should be obtained prior to the birth of the applicant.
Note: If the applicant is concluded to have Chinese citizenship by the Chinese public security department after application, admission or enrollment, the applicant will be disqualified from application, admission or enrollment or withdrawal from school will be required.
3.Language Proficiency Requirements:
For Programs taught in English
International applicants who apply for English-taught graduate programs must provide certificates to prove their English language proficiency meets the minimum requirement for admission, which are listed as below:
3.1 Applicants whose native language is English are exempt from providing English Proficiency Certificates.
Native English speaking countries recognized by ZJU include: American Samoa, Australia, Bahamas, Barbados, Belize,Botswana, Canada, Fiji,Gibraltar, Ghana, Guyana, Ireland, Jamaica, Kenya, Lesotho,Liberia, New Zealand, Nigeria, Papua New Guinea, Singapore, Solomon Islands,South Africa, The Gambia, Tonga, United Kingdom (including Northern Ireland), United States of America, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
3.2 Applicants whose native language is not English must provide English Language Test Result within validity period or Certificate of Instruction in English issued by previous institutions or other proof which can reflect the applicants’ English proficiency.

● Certificate of Instruction in English: Applicants who have earned a degree from accredited college or university whose language of instruction was English, must provide Certificate of Instruction in English issued by previous institution.

1.documents certifying acquiring foreign citizenship at the time of birth;
2.documents certifying parent’s (with Chinese citizenship) permanent residence in foreign country before the birth of applicants.*6. Photocopies of language proficiency certificates.
Applicants for English-instructed programs must provide the certificate of TOEFL or IELTS test score. (Not required for English native speakers)

*9. Academic transcripts during Master’s and Bachelor’s degree study
Academic transcripts during Master’s and Bachelor’s degree study, which must be original documents or notarized copies. Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.
*10. Highest degree certificates
Highest degree certificates, which must be original documents or notarized copies. If applicants are university students, they shall provide an official pre-graduation certificate showing their student status and stating expected graduation date. The original certificates or notarized copies MUST be submitted at registration. The certificates should be obtained prior to registration.
Documents in languages other than Chinese or English must be attached with notarized translations in Chinese or English.*11. Two letters of recommendation
Two letters of recommendation from full professors or associate professors, in Chinese or English. (Professors’ signature, contact phone number and email address must be put on the letter.)
*12. Personal statement
Personal statement, in Chinese or English, should include study and work experience, reasons for application and study proposal. No less than 1500 words.
13. Form for Provisional Acceptance of International Student by ZJU Supervisor(If applicable)
Applicants shall provide the above form for professors to fill. Old versions will not be accepted.
