After studying Chinese for 5 years at University and 1 semester in Beijing, I am looking for an immersive experience in China in order to concretize my learning. Studying in Zhejiang University was a logic choice for me, and this for many reasons. The reputation of the University needs no further proving, as it is one of the longest established and most prestigious Chinese University. It would be a great opportunity for me to be able to learn and develop my skills here. Furthermore, I see 杭州 and 浙江 in general as one of the most attractive place in China to live and learn about Chinese culture.

To start off, my goal is to improve my Chinese. Although I studied Chinese at school a decade ago as a second language, I have not continued to maintain my standard of Chinese by reading and writing regularly and have forgotten a lot of vocabulary and proverbs. In addition, having lived in Hong Kong for a number of years, I fear that I am starting to use Cantonese terms and expressions when speaking mandarin or writing Chinese without knowing it. I therefore want to improve my Chinese and my understanding of Chinese history and culture through immersing myself in a Chinese (and Mandarin-speaking) environment.
I choose Zhejiang University's language course because it is located in Hangzhou, one of my favourite Chinese cities. Hangzhou is the city that has inspired many Chinese poets and I believe its rich heritage and culture will be conducive to bettering my Chinese. In addition, Zhejiang University offers Chinese language classes at different levels, which will cater to my level of Chinese, as well as extra-curricular electives on language and culture. To top it off, the campus is a stone's throw from the beautiful West Lake. I believe the relaxed and cultured atmosphere of Hangzhou makes it an ideal environment for making friends and practising Chinese with the locals.- 5 Years ago

I chose Zhejiang University because of its excellent reputation as institution for education, a fact confirmed by several Chinese friends of mine. I want to pursue my interest in Chinese language further and I am very excited about the program offered by Zhejiang University for language students. The program covers all relevant aspects for Chinese language students and can achieve great progress fort its students. Furthermore, the campus of Zhejiang University and Hangzhou as closest city seem to be a very nice place to live, study and learn more about Chinese language and culture.
